AUDITIONSMinistry of Cultural Warfare presents a double-bill of Chekhov parodies for the Twin Cities Chekhov Festival at the Bryant-Lake Bowl, February 2008. A RAIN OF SEAGULLSA Rain of Seagulls, written by Meron Langsner, directed by Leah Cooper, explores nearly every Chekhovian theme known to man in roughly 40 minutesmeaning that, of course, the cast is heavily armed and rather morose.
Download the audition pieces here, here and here and read the character overviews (all PDFs). OUR VANYA, OURSELVESOur Vanya, Ourselves, written by Matthew Foster, directed by Reid Knuttila, is a mash-up between Anton's Uncle Vanya and "Sisters and Other Strangers," a classic episode of The Golden Girls when Dorothy's cousin Magda visits from Czechoslovakia after the fall of communism.

What's newTwin Cities Chekhov FestivalAfter a long string of Eastern European adaptations and interpretations (Örkény, Havel), we're going for the big boys: The Russians. Ministry of Cultural Warfare is taking part in the inaugural Twin Cities Chekhov Festival at Bryant-Lake Bowl in February 2008. We're presenting two pieces: One, by MoCW's own Matthew Foster, is a mash-up between "Uncle Vanya" and the classic 1990 "Golden Girls" episode, "Sisters and Other Strangers," when Dorothy's ex-husband Stan's cousin Magda visits from a newly liberated Czechoslovakia. Fun! The second piece is "A Rain of Seagulls" by Meron Langsner. It crams in every Chekhovian theme known to man in 40 minutesand has the body count to prove it. |
